MoDaCo first launched in November 2002 to coincide with the launch of the world's first Windows Mobile Smartphone, the SPV. The SPV was launched on Orange and was based on the HTC Canary.

At that time I (Paul O'Brien) already had a keen interest in Windows based PDAs, and Windows development. For that reason, the SPV caught my eye as a mobile device where I could easily deploy applications, and start to explore the untapped market of custom software for mobile phones.

Of course, those of you that were around at the very beginning will know that things didn't actually turn out that way. Orange chose to application lock the original SPV, thereby thwarting hopes of developers such as myself of running custom applications on the device. Needless to say I, and other purchasers weren't happy! So what do you do when you're not happy about something? You go and write about it on the internet of course!

In the absence of a natural home for posting about Smartphone devices, I created MoDaCo. Using a domain I already owned for my Mobile Data Consultancy, a new forum was born... and as it grew, MoDaCo became the Mobile Data Community... but in all honesty the meaning wasn't important... the word MoDaCo just became synonymous with a bustling Smartphone community.

That was over 4 years ago, and the marketplace has changed massively... as has MoDaCo.

Smartphones are now 'Windows Mobile' devices, and are joined in the marketplace by a whole host of Phone enabled Pocket PCs.

MoDaCo no longer has a handful of members on a phpBB forum, it has hundreds of thousands of members accessing content on a much more advanced system, and the MoDaCo Team are always trying to innovate, grow and generally provide the best experience for Windows Mobile owners worldwide.

This Wiki is another attempt to provide a useful repository of content for owners... like the forum... the wiki NEEDS YOU to make it as effective as it can be!
