To use any MP3 as a ringtone place your desired file in \Windows\Rings.

Alternatively to save using your phones internal memory you can store your MP3s in \Storage Card\My documents.

Select your tone by tapping

Start>Settings>Sounds and Notifications>Notifications tab, and choose 'Phone Incoming call' from the drop down list

Alerts tones must be .WAV files, place your desired wav in \Windows.

Start>Settings>Sounds and Notifications>Notifications tab, and choose 'Messaging: New text message' from the drop down list

For Pictures and Videos:

Ensure your Bluetooth is turned on via Comms manager and browse to your picture or Video in 'Pictures and Videos'

Tap and hold, select 'Beam...'

For any file:

Use the same method as above using File explorer instead of Pictures and Videos

To ensure you can receive files by Bluetooth tap:

Start>Settings>Connections tab, tick 'Receive incoming beams'

In Comms manager tap

Settings>Bluetooth settings and make sure 'Make this device discoverable to other devices' is checked.

Be sure to turn your Bluetooth off again when finished to preserve battery life

Pocket PCs use .tsk files as today themes, place them in \Windows.

Alternatively to save using your phones internal memory you can store them on the root of your Storage Card

[edit] Use any image as a background on your today screen

Browse to the picture you want to use in Pictures and Videos

Tap and hold, select 'Set as today background...' Select transparency as desired

You can add and remove items, or change the order of items on the today screen by tapping

Start>Settings>Today>Items tab

Here you can check or uncheck items and move them up or down

[edit] Installing software

There are three types of software for Pocket PCs. CAB files, an exe you run on your desktop PC and an exe that runs directly on the Pocket PC.

[edit] Cab (Cabinet) files

To install cab files connect your device using ActiveSync, click the 'Explore' icon and copy the cab to a location convenient to you (My documents for example).

On your device browse to the cab using File explorer and click on it to install.

After the installation has finished the cab will be deleted, to keep it on your device ( e.g. for re-installation at a later date) set the cab to 'read only' before copying it to your device

Desktop installers will install the software to your device using ActiveSync.

Connect your device, run the exe on your PC. follow the prompts to install

Some software takes the form of an exe that runs directly on your device, with no installation needed. Copy the exe to either \Program Files or \Storage Card\Program Files and manually create a shortcut in your Start Menu using the File explorer

[edit] Freeing up storage space

If your devices internal storage space is running low you can clear the following items (to check your free space tap Start>Settings>System tab>Memory>Main tab)

In Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) tap

Menu>Tools>Options... On the memory tab clear your history and delete files On the security tab clear your Cookies

In messaging click the down arrow next to 'inbox' and delete the contents of your 'Deleted items' and 'Sent items' folders under each account

Delete your call history, this can take up a surprising amount of room. In the phone app tap

Call history>Menu>Delete all calls

Go to Start>Settings>Ring Tone to set the tune

You can also set a ringtone for an individual contact by going to Contacts>open a contact>Edit>Custom ring tone
